Our Privacy Promise
We believe privacy policies should be written in plain English, not legal jargon. Here’s the simple version: we collect as little data as possible, we never sell your information, and you can ask us to delete anything we have about you at any time.
This page explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.
Who We Are
HomeFix Pro is a DIY home improvement resource run by a team of licensed contractors, electricians, and renovators based in the United States. Our website is https://thehomefixpro.com.
If you have questions about this policy, email us at info@thehomefixpro.com. We respond within 24 hours.
What Data We Collect (and Why)
Comments
When you leave a comment on one of our articles, we collect:
- Your name (or whatever display name you choose)
- Your email address (never shown publicly — we use it to check if you’re a real person and to notify you of replies if you opt in)
- Your comment content (obviously)
- Your IP address (for spam detection — we use an automated spam filter to keep the comment section clean)
When you comment, an anonymized string created from your email (called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is here. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture (if you have a Gravatar) is visible next to your comment.
Email Signups
If you sign up for our newsletter or updates, we collect your email address. That’s it — no name required, no phone number, no address. We use this only to send you the content you signed up for. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Click it and you’re off the list immediately.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use our site — which articles are most helpful, where readers come from, what devices they use. This helps us make better content.
Google Analytics collects data like:
- Pages you visit and how long you spend on them
- Whether you’re on a phone, tablet, or computer
- What country or city you’re browsing from
- How you found our site (Google search, social media, another website)
This is aggregated and anonymized. We can’t identify individual people from it. Google may place cookies in your browser to enable this tracking. You can read Google’s privacy policy here, and if you want to opt out of Google Analytics entirely across all websites, they offer a browser add-on.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that websites store in your browser. Here’s what we use:
| Cookie Type | Purpose | Can You Disable It? |
|---|---|---|
| Comment cookies | If you leave a comment, we save your name, email, and website in cookies so you don’t have to retype them next time. These last for one year. | Yes — just clear your browser cookies. |
| Analytics cookies | Google Analytics places cookies to track page visits and user behavior (see Analytics section above). | Yes — see the opt-out link above or use your browser’s privacy settings. |
| Login cookies | Only applies if you have an account on our site (most readers don’t). These keep you logged in. | Yes — log out to remove them. |
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. The site will still work fine — you just might have to re-enter your name when commenting.
Affiliate Links
Some of our articles include links to products on sites like Amazon, Home Depot, or Lowe’s. If you click one of these links and buy something, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you.
These affiliate links don’t collect any personal data about you. The retailer (Amazon, Home Depot, etc.) handles the transaction — we never see your payment information, address, or what you bought.
We only recommend products our team has used or thoroughly researched. Commissions help keep this site running and our content free for everyone.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Some articles may include embedded content — things like YouTube videos, Instagram posts, or product demonstrations. Embedded content from other sites behaves exactly as if you visited that other website directly. Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content. We don’t control that — check their privacy policies if you’re concerned.
Who We Share Your Data With
Nobody. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone. Period. The only exceptions are:
- Spam detection: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
- Hosting and analytics: Our web host and Google Analytics process some data on our behalf, but they don’t get to use it for their own purposes.
How Long We Keep Your Data
- Comments: Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely. This lets us recognize and auto-approve follow-up comments instead of holding them for moderation.
- Email signups: Your email stays on our list until you unsubscribe. Once you do, we remove it within 30 days.
- Analytics data: Google Analytics retains data according to their own retention policies (typically 26 months for the standard setting we use).
Your Rights Over Your Data
For Everyone (CCPA — California Consumers)
If you live in California, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have about you — just email us and ask.
- Delete your personal information — we’ll remove it, with a few legal exceptions.
- Opt out of the sale of personal information — easy one: we don’t sell it.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
For European Users (GDPR)
If you’re in the EU or UK, the GDPR gives you these rights:
- Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification: If something’s wrong, tell us and we’ll fix it.
- Erasure: You can ask us to delete your data (the “right to be forgotten”).
- Portability: We’ll export your data in a common format so you can take it elsewhere.
- Objection: You can object to us processing your data.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@thehomefixpro.com. We’ll respond within 48 hours and complete your request within 30 days. We may ask you to verify your identity first — that’s to protect your data from someone pretending to be you.
For Everyone Else
Even if you’re not in California or Europe, we extend these same rights to you. If you want to know what data we have, want it deleted, or just have a question — email us. We treat all readers equally.
Children’s Privacy
Our site is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you’re a parent and believe your child has provided us with personal information, contact us immediately and we’ll delete it.
Security
We take reasonable precautions to protect your data. Our site uses HTTPS encryption, we keep our software updated, and we limit access to personal data within our team. That said, no website is 100% secure — if you believe your data has been compromised through our site, contact us right away.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, we’ll post the changes here and update the “Last updated” date. For significant changes, we’ll add a notice on our homepage for 30 days. If you’ve signed up for emails, we’ll also notify you there.
